TALLINN - Estonian hydrogen startup Stargate Hydrogen said it has signed an agreement with global power solutions company Cummins to manufacture and supply replacement stacks and provide related services for more than 400 installed HySTAT alkaline electrolysers without disclosing financial details of the deal.
"This agreement is first and foremost about maturity," Marko Virkebau, Chief Executive Officer of Stargate Hydrogen, said in a statement. "We are proud to continue the legacy of the HySTAT platform, which has served customers reliably over multiple decades and has been proven through hundreds of thousands of operating hours in real industrial conditions."
Virkebau added that the selection by Cummins highlights widespread confidence in the startup's engineering, manufacturing capabilities, and long-term customer support.
For Stargate, founded in 2021, the contract creates recurring demand for replacement stacks and strengthens its position among globally recognised industrial gas companies.
The firm specialises in precious-metal-free alkaline electrolysers for energy-intensive industries—such as refining, ammonia, and steel production — that are transitioning away from grey hydrogen.
Cummins expressed confidence in handing over its legacy fleet.
"We selected Stargate Hydrogen because we believe they have the technical expertise, commitment, and long-term perspective required to support the customers," Tim Proctor, Executive Director of Electrolyser Engineering at Accelera by Cummins, said in a statement.
Separately, highlighting the expanding reach of Estonian hydrogen technology, PowerUP Energy Technologies announced a strategic partnership with Italian marine technology firm H2Boat to provide fully integrated, zero-emission energy solutions for yachts and the broader maritime industry.
The alliance will combine H2Boat’s onboard hydrogen production and advanced metal hydride storage with PowerUP’s highly efficient proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell generators.
"For too long, there has been a glaring contradiction in our industry. You enjoy this silent, green yachting experience, yet the moment you need to manoeuvre into the harbour or require backup power, you have to fire up a noisy, polluting diesel generator that instantly ruins the magic," said Ivar Kruusenberg, CEO and Founder of PowerUP, adding that the partnership eliminates this compromise by delivering clean, silent electricity that emits only pure water.
