# Tehnopol's Defence Innovation Day kick started defence influx to Tallinn

It was [Estonian Defence Week](https://edw.ee/en/estonian-defence-week/?ref=fomo.observer) this week and Tallinn played host to events across the city, with a large part of the action happening in Kultuurikatel. The opening day belonged to Tehnopol, for the second edition of its Defence Innovation Day. 

It held a packed schedule with over 30 speakers from all corners of the defence tech ecosystem. The event was opened by Undersecretary for Defence Industry and Innovation at the Estonian Ministry of Defence, Siim Sukles.

Followed up by Anne-Liisa Elbrecht, Head of Tehnopol Accelerator and the[ NATO DIANA Estonian Accelerator](https://www.tehnopol.ee/en/accelerator/nato-diana-estonian-accelerator/?ref=fomo.observer), the crowd of over nearly 900 attendees were treated to a keynote on why stronger connections between companies, end users, public institutions, investors and international partners matter in the current security environment proving the need for a Defence Innovation Day.

Taking to the stage for the first of what seemed like a lot of Major Ivo Peets appearances over the week, the Commander of the Force Transformation Command of the Estonian Defence Forces, focused his keynote on what happens when a promising technology reaches a military organisation. 

His presentation covered the force’s ability to absorb change through people, training, integration, logistics, sustainment and clear ownership of decisions.

### Pitches

We saw pitches from four NATO DIANA companies: SkyFi, DATAMBIT, IS-Wireless and Spacedrip. After their three minute pitches they were subjected to questions from Gabrielle Dunn of In-Q-Tel, Hugo Urbla of the Estonian Defence Forces’ Force Transformation Command and Air Brigadier General Jean-Luc Daroux of DELAIR.
