# Estonia's getting a new €24M science hub

In great news for Estonian deep-tech talent and scientists this week…instead of looking abroad for research opportunities, we are getting our very own international centre of excellence, to the tune of €24 million.

The initiative is led by [TalTech](https://taltech.ee/?ref=fomo.observer), includes a partnership with [CERN](https://home.cern/?ref=fomo.observer) — the European Organisation for Nuclear Research — and the [Helsinki Institute of Physics](https://www.hip.fi/?ref=fomo.observer) (HIP) as well as a consortium of other research institutions here at home - the [National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics](https://kbfi.ee/en/?ref=fomo.observer) (NICPB), and the [University of Tartu](https://ut.ee/en?ref=fomo.observer). The project falls under the [European Commission’s Teaming for Excellence](https://efmc.eu/teaming-for-excellence-horizon-europe-widera/?ref=fomo.observer#:~:text=The%20Teaming%20for%20Excellence%20call,partnerships%20with%20leading%20institutions%20abroad.) programme.

Estonia has been a CERN member since 2024, and this new initiative will enable researchers in Estonia to access “CERN’s infrastructure and expertise — reducing the brain drain that has long constrained smaller research economies,” according to [Trade with Estonia](https://tradewithestonia.com/estonia-cern-science-hub/?ref=fomo.observer).

“The plan envisages a clear pipeline from CERN-derived technologies into Estonian industry through industrial doctorates, technology transfer, licensing, and deep-tech spin-offs,” it stated.
